LESSON LEARNED…
We are all capable and experienced in the mountains and typically take no thought before venturing into familiar country. I’ve hiked these mountains and this exact trail since I was 5. The thought or concern for my own safety never crosses my mind because I belong here.
This weekend I experienced an absolute nightmare that started off as a typical day that quickly deteriorated into a crisis. After a life-flight, night in the IC, the dust has finally settled and I still cannot believe it all happened to me.
Please be careful out there and always prepare and plan for the worst. Simple items that I take for granted could’ve alleviated a lot of this from happening. Hunt with a partner near by as well. The moral support as well as safety make it paramount.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the evac crew who risked their lives to get me off the mountain. I apologize for my poor judgement and for putting you all in that position.
I’m so blessed to have such a loving and supportive family to help get me through this.
